Day 5:Random Acts of Kindness

Showing kindness towards your children, this may seem like a no brainer (we should do this everyday right?) but a lot of times we get so caught up in  our day-to-day life we forget to take time out for our kids. There are so many things that I could write about concerning our children and parenting in general. That’s for another time. Right now I just want to touch on taking time out to focus completely on our children. Without all of the distractions of everyday life.

During the holiday season I am guilty of finding every single Christmas activity in our area and wanting to cram it into our schedule. Often resulting in me becoming stressed out, frustrated, and irritated and the result is the same for my poor kids and husband. This year we definitely have some fun things planned but we are taking a much more relaxed approach. Instead of having something planned every day we will do one or two activities a week.

Today when our 4-year-old picked out today’s act of kindness she was surprised and excited to hear me read that today was all about being kind to her and her brother. Now, don’t get me wrong I strive to be kind and spend time with my children everyday but I have days where I feel like I fail miserably.

So, today we have played outside, made dirt mountains, read lots of books, built blocks for at least an hour, played puzzles, and played with their little people nativity scene. When daddy gets home we will have fun at the playground and play outside some more. We’ve indulged in extra treats and made a conscious effort to be nice, say kind words, help each other out, and work together.

I’m tired, sweaty, and dirty from all the play (it’s hard work believe it or not!), but it has been such a fun and entertaining day. I feel refreshed being able to spend time with them. They are only small once and I have a limited amount of time to make these kinds of memories with them. Once they are older our relationship will change and our time spent together will differ from now. So, I want to revel in this precious stage of their life and take advantage of it to the fullest!

I hope you are all having a wonderful Monday! Don’t forget to spread some kindness today! It’s contagious 🙂
