DIY: All natural homemade liquid hand soap recipe
We go through a lot of soap in our house. As I’m sure most of you mamas out there can relate to. Our 11-year-old is still working on how much soap is appropriate to use. Our 4-year-old uses soap on everything you can think of, from washing her babies to trying to clean the nail polish she spilled on the counter. Lastly, our 2-year-old likes to sneak into the bathroom and pump it everywhere so he can play in it.
There were a few reasons I decided to start making our own hand soap.
- I didn’t like all the chemicals you find in your traditional store-bought hand soap.
- Natural hand soaps at the store are expensive.
- As mentioned above our kids use a lot of soap so I wanted a more frugal option.
ALL NATURAL LIQUID HAND SOAP RECIPE
Add all of the ingredients in your soap container. Give it a good mix and you’re set! It literally takes 2 minutes to make. A little tip, if you’re adding coconut oil (which I love because it’s a great moisturizer) make sure it’s liquified before mixing it in. Otherwise you’ll have weird coconut oil clumps floating around in your soap. You might need to put it in the microwave for a few seconds if you live in a cold climate.
Can I use different scents of essential oils?
When it comes to which essential oil to use there are many scents to choose from. I use young living lemon oil because it’s a natural anti-bacterial and I absolutely love the smell. We have also used a number of other oil blends from young living as well.
Here are a few of the scents we have used and loved.
- 12 drops of Basil + 12 drops of Lemon
- 12 drops of Lemon + 12 drops of Orange
- 12 drops of Lemon + 6 drops of Lavender + 4 drops of Orange
