5 Easy Steps to Start a Morning Routine
Starting a morning routine can be difficult but rewarding. Having an easy morning routine will help you conquer your day no matter what happens. I understand if you hate mornings. I hate mornings. Everyone in my family knows do not talk to me until I have had a cup of coffee! But, I thrive on my morning and evening routines. It makes me feel like no matter what happened in the middle of the day I still accomplished something! It also helps me stay more focused and relaxed. So, don’t keep hitting that snooze button. Do yourself a favor and get up ready to face the day by implementing a morning routine. This is just an example of my morning routine. Everyone is different. This is to help give you an idea of what I do each day and maybe encourage you to start your day with a morning routine. Here are 5 easy steps to start a morning routine.
1. Drink Water
First thing every morning I drink a glass of water. It is imperative to give yourself water when you wake up. This will help hydrate you from the night before and get your body working. Sometimes, I will squeeze some fresh lime juice in there just for added flavor.
I like to do yoga or cardio before I start my day to help wake up my brain and body. It doesn’t matter if its 20 minutes or an hour it gets me energized. I will be honest, there are some days this doesn’t happen! Don’t stress about it. Try and get some walking in or play some basketball or soccer with your kiddos later in the day. Your heart will thank you!
3. Do Devotions
Now that I’m awake I’m ready for my devotions. It is important to have time alone reading and praying on God’s word. To meditate on scriptures and to build a closer relationship with Him. If this seems daunting start out reading a Proverb each day to help you implement a routine of daily devotions. You can also download a free devotional app on your phone like Our Daily Bread.
4. Get Dressed
I know this seems silly but getting dressed helps me to be more productive. Getting myself dressed for the day before the kiddos are all running around keeps me ahead of the day to day grind. Its also helpful if I need to run a last minute errand.
5. Cup of Coffee
Yes, coffee is a must around my house. I get all warm and tingling inside when I smell it and drink it. Now, before you think step #5 is a complete waste, there is more to just sipping on a cup of coffee. While I’m sipping on my cup of joe I have started a load of laundry and then begin cooking breakfast for the family. My coffee helps me relax and get ready for the hungry people wandering through my kitchen.
Putting a morning routine in place will help you be more organized and focused on the tasks that you need to get done. This is just a snippet of what my morning routine looks like. If you have little ones your routine might look different. Getting a shower can be a huge accomplishment with little ones under foot (I have been there). Don’t stress or compare routines. Make a routine that fits you and your family during your season of life!
